Areas of expertise: Sea Ice Modelling

Associated projects:

Penny Coulthard is a PhD student at the University of Reading working with sea ice models and specifically considering how well current models represent dynamic and deformation processes at high resolutions. This work involves using discrete element models, which directly allow for the discrete nature of sea ice as floes, to test the continuum assumption.

Penny took an undergraduate degree in mathematics at the University of Oxford before training to be an actuary. After having a career break to look after her young family, she changed direction, taking a masters in Atmospheres, Oceans and Climates at the University of Reading before starting her PhD.
