Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project for CMIP6.
ISMIP is a framework bringing together international ice sheet models and coupled ice sheet-climate models to fully explore the sea level rise contribution from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. CPOM incorporates their BISICLES model into the ISMIP framework of intercomparisons and supported analysis of the ISMIP6 model ensembles.
The project allows researchers to investigate feedback mechanisms, contributing insights on complex interactions between ice sheets and the wider climate system and provides robust projections of potential sea level rise. The IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report, published in 2021 incorporated ISMIP6 findings.
Leadership
ISMIP6 is co-chaired by Sophie Nowicki (University of Buffalo), Eric Larour (NASA) and CPOM’s Tony Payne (University of Liverpool).
